About the Worldstar Competition

Since 1970, the World Packaging Organisation has given awards to numerous new packs from all around the world.

The WorldStar Competition is one of the major events of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and is the pre-eminent international award in packaging,  WorldStar illustrates the continual advancement of the state of packaging design and technology and creates a living standard of international packaging excellence from which others may learn.

WorldStars are presented only to those packs which, having already won recognition in a recognised national or regional competition, either in the present year or the previous year, are compared by an expert panel of judges to similar packs from around the world. Awards are based on the judges’ consensus that a pack is superior in its category and market and better in its class in execution or innovation by comparison to others.  WorldStar Awards are of equal standing. The judging panel consists of country representatives from WPO and one representative from the International Packaging Press Organisation.

The 2018 awards received 318 entries from 38 countries around the world.  Out of these 194 were selected to receive a WorldStar by a jury that met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  A WorldStar Award is of equal standing.  The Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner will take place on 2 May, 2018, Gold Coast, Australia and at the same time the AIP (Australian Institute of Packaging) will be hosting a two day national conference which attendees are invited to attend. The special awards for Marketing, Sustainability, Packaging that Saves Food and the ultimate President’s Award, will be announced on the night.  The shortlisted winners will get to know if they have received a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.

How to become a recognised competition

Following submission of an application, the WPO reserves the right to seek more information about a competition from the organisers or from elsewhere. The application will be considered and the decision of the WPO will be final and binding.   Competition organisers who are not on the list of recognised competitions are asked to complete the application form below and return to rachel.bayswater@iom3.org

Please note: it is not necessary to complete this form if you are a national competition winner entering your pack into the WorldStar Awards.
